Creating a League

Every setting on the create screen and which ones you can change later

Name and description

The name is what everyone sees in their league list, up to 40 characters. The description is optional and holds up to 500 characters. Both can be changed later from Edit League.

Public or private

A private league is invite only. Nobody finds it by browsing, and the only way in is the code or a direct invite. This is the default.

A public league shows up on the find a league screen and anyone can join it. It can still be joined by code as well.

Public leagues cannot use photo prompts, only text themes. If you later want to make a private league public, the app will stop you while any round still carries a photo, including rounds that have already finished and rounds still queued up.

Crew leagues are always private and the choice is not offered.

Pacing

This is the one setting you can never change, so it is worth understanding before you tap create.

Standard leagues wait for people. You press Start when everyone is in, and each round moves on as soon as everybody has submitted or voted, or when the deadline arrives, whichever comes first.

Scheduled leagues run on the clock and nothing else. The league starts itself at the time you set, every phase begins and ends at a fixed moment, and finishing early does not move anything forward.

Pacing is covered in full under Pacing.

Round settings

These control the shape of every round in the league.

Submission phase
How many days people get to pick a song. 1 to 30 days, 7 by default. Standard leagues only.
Voting phase
How many days voting stays open. 1 to 30 days, 7 by default. Standard leagues only.
Required tracks
How many songs each person sends per round. 1 to 5, 1 by default.
Max members
The roster cap. 15 by default.
One artist per round
No two songs in a round may share an artist. First in wins.
Lineage protection
A song used in an earlier round of this league cannot be used again.
Hide round themes
Upcoming themes stay secret until their round opens. Admins and commissioners still see them.
Hide results until the round is over
Nobody sees the standing of a round while voting is still open, including commissioners.
Hide submission comments until voting ends
The note a person wrote about their pick stays hidden while voting runs.
Disable submission comments
Turns those notes off completely.
Allow YouTube links
People can paste a YouTube link instead of picking from search.
Easier submitter guessing
The guess list only offers people who submitted that round, instead of the whole roster.

Why members and tracks limit each other

Max members and required tracks are not independent. The app checks that the number of members multiplied by itself, then multiplied by the number of tracks, comes to no more than 2500. Raising one lowers the ceiling on the other.

The reason is the guessing data. Every round stores who guessed what about whom, and that grows with the square of the roster. Without the cap a very large league would eventually store more than the database allows in a single record, and the round would fail to finish.

The practical ceilings are 50 members at one track, 35 at two, 28 at three, 25 at four and 22 at five.

Voting settings

Every voter gets the same budget, set once for the whole league.

Upvotes
How many upvotes each voter spends per round. 1 to 100, 3 by default.
Downvotes
How many downvotes each voter spends per round. 0 to 100, 1 by default. Set it to zero for a friendly league.
Max upvotes per track
How much of your budget can land on any one song. Defaults to your whole upvote budget.
Max downvotes per track
The same cap for downvotes.
Make downvotes optional
Lets people finalize a ballot without spending every downvote. Only offered when downvotes are switched on.

How many people you need to start

Two people is normally enough. If the league has downvotes switched on and they are not optional, you need three.

The reason is that a two player league with forced downvotes is not a game. Each person has to spend a downvote, there is only one other person to spend it on, and both of them cancel out every round.

Deadline time of day

Standard leagues let you pick the time of day every submission deadline lands on, five in the afternoon by default. Every round in the league snaps to it, so deadlines stay predictable instead of drifting to whatever time you happened to press Start.

This one can be changed mid league from Edit League. Changing it moves every future deadline.

Themes

Themes are the prompts your rounds are built on, and they play in the order you list them.

You can take them from the category bank, which holds 95 ready made prompts and is searchable, or write your own. A custom theme has a name of up to 50 characters and a description of up to 1000.

Private and crew leagues can attach a photo to a theme instead of describing it in words. Drag to reorder, swipe to delete.

What you can change after creating

Most settings are fixed once the league exists, because changing the rules under a season already in progress makes earlier rounds mean something different from later ones.

Name, description and the theme list can always be edited. Visibility can be toggled by the admin. Standard leagues can change their deadline time of day. Bucket leagues can change their round limit. Scheduled leagues can rebuild their upcoming schedule.

Everything else, including pacing, vote budgets, required tracks and the roster cap, is set at creation and stays set.
